Abstract

Some scholars require leaders in Islam must be from the Quraysh lineage based on the hadith “The Imams are from Quraysh”. This opinion seems utopian to be applied after the collapse of the Abbasids, especially in the southeast Asian country which was never led by descendants of the Quraysh. The researcher will study this hadith using the thematic methods of hadith. The thematic study on hadith is seen in the integrity of the understanding based on the compilation and classification of the hadith. This discussion was carried out to bring up an emic understanding in hadith science, that is the understanding of the hadith based on an explanation of other hadiths. This research concludes that the hadith is khabariyyah according to social-historical facts. This statement also confirms the prediction that future leadership will return to Quraysh.

ABSTRAK

Sebahagian ulama mengatakan bahawa pemimpin dalam Islam mesti berasal dari keturunan Quraisy berdasarkan hadis “Imam berasal dari orang Quraisy”. Pendapat ini nampaknya bersifat utopia setelah jatuhnya Bani Abbasiyah, terutamanya bagi negara-negara di Asia Tenggara yang tidak pernah diperintah oleh pemimpin berketurunan Quraisy. Hadis ini akan dikaji dengan menggunakan kaedah tematik. Kaedah tematik hadis tercermin dalam integriti pemahaman berdasarkan penyusunan dan klasifikasi hadis. Perbincangan ini bertujuan untuk mengetengahkan konsep emik dalam ilmu hadis, iaitu pemahaman hadis berdasarkan penjelasan dalam bentuk data dari hadis lain. Kajian ini menyimpulkan bahawa hadis ini adalah ungkapan khabariyyah yang sesuai dengan fakta sejarah-sosial. Ayat ini juga mengesahkan ramalan bahawa kepemimpinan masa depan akan kembali kepada pemimpin berketurunan Quraisy.

Author Biography

Miftah Khilmi Hidayatulloh, University of Ahmad Dahlan

An assistant professor at the department of hadith science, Universitas Ahmad Dahlan. Since 2018, He had being granted the Excellent scholarship for Indonesian lecturers (BUDI) from Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP), incorporated by the Indonesian Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia. Now, He has been joining a doctoral program at the department of tafsir, Sekolah Pascasarjana, UIN Jakarta, Indonesia. He wants to develop the thematic exegesis method by synthesizing it by R&D as part of the contemporary approach. So, he titled his research dissertation plan with the name Applicative Tafsir: The Implementation R&D on Quranic Tafsir. He has been a member of the editorial team of Tafsir Al-Tanwir under Majelis Tarjih, Muhammadiyah, a member of the Association of Hadith Science in Indonesia (ASILHA) and a member of Association of Tafsir and Quranic Science of Indonesia (AIAT). He has published some peer-review research articles entitled  Islamic Work Ethics: A Thematic Commentary Study, Al-Jihād wa Tathbīqātuhū Al-Mutanawwi‘ah (الجهاد وتطبيقاته المتنوعة), Concept and Method of Thematic Exegesis (A Comparative Study Among Kumi and Muṣṭafa Muslim), Qirā’āt on Ayāt al-Aḥkām and Its Impact on Fiqh, etc. All of his published articles are related to his research studies, such as A Comparative Study on Thematic Tafsir, Genealogy of Thematic Tafsir, and The Intersection of Two Exegetical Types of The Quran. He has a focus on thematic studies, both on Quran and Hadith. He also teaches some matters that he has been focusing on, such as ilm tafsīr, thematic tafsīr, and tafsīr works studies in Indonesia.
